Old Man Winter blew his first major winter storm through the Roaring Fork Valley over the past five days. Friday brought the largest accumulation of snow, and more fell through Saturday and scattered flurries were reported on Sunday. Aspen Ski Company officials are reporting up to 26 inches of fresh snow from the storm on the ski areas and consistently cold temperatures are predicted to remain throughout this week, before another storm hits the end of the week.
With the Thanksgiving day opening for both Aspen and Snowmass ski areas, and the Women's World Cup races the following week on Aspen Mountain, the snow is a welcome friend to locals and visitors alike.
Last week I was wearing short sleeves and eating lunch outside, making it hard to motivate myself to pick up my ski pass. This week I will be tuning my skis and preparing myself for my first turns next week on Aspen Mountain. As is often the case in Colorado, winter arrived over night and will stay with us for many months to come.
