Winter has Arrived

Winter has Arrived

Old Man Winter blew his first major winter storm through the Roaring Fork Valley over the past five days.  Friday brought the largest accumulation of snow, and more fell through Saturday and scattered flurries were reported on Sunday.  Aspen Ski Company officials are reporting up to 26 inches of fresh snow from the storm on the ski areas and consistently cold temperatures are predicted to remain throughout this week, before another storm hits the end of the week.

With the Thanksgiving day opening for both Aspen and Snowmass ski areas, and the Women's World Cup races the following week on Aspen Mountain, the snow is a welcome friend to locals and visitors alike.

Last week I was wearing short sleeves and eating lunch outside, making it hard to motivate myself to pick up my ski pass.   This week I will be tuning my skis and preparing myself for my first turns next week on Aspen Mountain. As is often the case in Colorado, winter arrived over night and will stay with us for many months to come.

Enjoy!

Downtown Aspen Commercial Space Update

Downtown Aspen Commercial Space Update

It's off-season in Aspen and that means the semi-annual retail shuffle is under way.  Twice each year, retailers and restaurateurs jockey for better locations in and around the downtown core.

D19, a favorite local restaurant of mine, has changed names and moved across the Hyman Avenue into the former Dish/Mogador space.  Chef Deanna Marino has a large following of locals and visitors.  Reservations will certainly be necessary.

Noodles, owned by the folks at Kenichi, opened next to and downstairs from Pitkin County Dry Goods.  It has already become a local's hot-spot.

Marmot has opened up in half of the space formerly occupied by Amen Wardy.  Just in time for the snow and cold weather.

John Pearce, a high-end clothing boutique, opened in the former Polar Revolution space across from Boogies.

Polar Revolution upgraded their location by taking two-thirds of the Isberian Rug Company location on Hyman Avenue.  Isberian opened a third location on Highway 82, up-valley from Basalt.

L'il Boogies has opened across the Boogies in the space that Lush vacated.

Stay tuned for more announcements.
