Rafting/Kayaking - There is still plenty to do in Aspen after the ski lifts close. The melting snows provide for some of the best rafting and kayaking anywhere. Take the grandkids for a day on The Roaring Fork River, The Colorado River or, for the adventurous, The Arkansas River. Skiing, Snowboarding and Cross-Country Skiing - Skiing is usually what attracts people to Aspen and keeps them coming back year after year. Aspen Mountain (Ajax), Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk/Tiehack and Snowmass make up the Aspen Skiing Company's portfolio. When you are skiing Snowmass, don't forget to drop into Krabloonik for lunch where you and your children can play with the sled dogs.

Shopping
With the beauty of Ajax Mountain as a backdrop, Aspen's shopping area competes head-on with 5th Avenue, Rodeo Drive and Worth Avenue, and boasts shops for Christian Dior, Tumi, Louis Vuitton, Kieselstein-Cord, Bvlgari, Brioni, Frette and Prada. Locals know, though, it is the Cos Bar, Amen Wardy, Cashmere Aspen, Geraniums & Sunshine, Gorsuch Ltd, The Freudian Slip, Bloomingbirds, Peaches En Regalia and Art Tee Gallery that distinguish Aspen shopping.

Culture
Aspen offers more, culturally, than many big cities. The Wheeler Opera House is information central for the Aspen/Santa Fe Ballet, Aspen Music Festival, Aspen Theater In The Park, ACES (Aspen Center For Environmental Studies), Aspen Writers' Foundation and The Aspen Art Museum. Aspen offers renowned annual events such as the Food and Wine Festival, U.S Comedy Arts Festival, Winterskol,Jazz Aspen/Snowmass and the Winter X Games.

Even the most discriminating gourmand will not be disappointed in Aspen. At the top of most lists are Pinions, Cache Cache, Jimmy's, Camp0 de Fiori, Ajax Tavern and Olives. Among my favorites are the Hickory House for breakfast, Boogies or the Woody Creek Tavern for lunch and the Pine Creek Cookhouse for that scenic and memorable evening or Kenichi for the best sushi in town.
