Aspen Food and Wine Classic

The first festival to kick off summer in Aspen each year is the Food & Wine Classic, a culinary event not to be missed.  For three days in June, the world’s most accomplished Chefs, winemakers and culinary luminaries come together in a breathtaking setting at the base of Aspen Mountain.  Said to be one of the country’s most celebrated events in the food industry, this pleasure-packed weekend is sure to thrill any foodie or wine lover.

Hosted by Food & Wine magazine and nearing its 30th year, the Aspen Food & Wine Classic is an incredible gathering of some of the most important and interesting people in the culinary industry.  Aspen instantly comes alive with people scurrying from tent to tent, to all the hot restaurants and private parties.  The energy and excitement around town is really a site to see.

Guests peruse a rich itinerary of events and hand-select what they’d like to indulge in each day.  Food & Wine Classic attendees can participate in cooking demonstrations, wine seminars, special events and tastings of all kinds.  In one day you can see Thomas Keller perform a cooking demonstration on the world’s best preserves, head over to Mark Oldman’s seminar on summertime red wines, visit Richard Betts for the Two Decades of Dom Perignon tasting, and eat and drink your heart out at the decadent Grand Tasting tent at Wagner Park.  Other culinary masters that have graced the event with their presence include Jacques Pepin, Wolfgang Puck, Bobby Flay, Mario Batali and Giada de Laurentis.  And of course, each year the winner of Food Network’s Top Chef makes their mark at the festival as well.

The Food & Wine Classic is known for its demos, parties, and the centerpiece of the event, the Best New Chefs dinner.  But perhaps the most popular event of all is the Grand Tasting, a food and wine free-for-all that takes place twice daily under an expansive tent in downtown Aspen.  It's in the midst of this prized event that one discovers new restaurants, food trends, and wine labels, both good and bad.  More than 300 vintners serve up premium wines complemented by specialty foods from all over the world at the Grand Tasting.  The Food & Wine Classic is not just a weekend of indulgences for the rich and famous – it’s a chance for the who’s who of the culinary and wine world to show off the hot new trends and ideas each year.

The Aspen Food & Wine Classic is truly the food event of the year.  With fresh mountain air, warm sun, amazing food & plenty of wine, it’s a great excuse to visit Aspen in June.
