Aspen Weather & Climate

The climate in Aspen offers mild weather with low humidity and more than 300 days of annual sunshine, making it a popular year-round mountain destination and a great place to own real estate. 

The summer season in Aspen starts in June when temperatures can reach the 80’s during the day, although they are much cooler at night. The occasional afternoon summer showers also help cool things off, though they usually don’t last very long.

Autumn in Aspen is usually dry and warm, and during September the daytime temperatures can get into the 70’s, but night temperatures can drop to freezing. The fall colors are fantastic in Aspen and they generally peak around the middle of September.

The weather and climate in Aspen during the winter months of December, January and February tends to be the coldest of the year, with temperatures typically in the 10’s and 20’s, with slightly warmer temperatures going into March. Snowfall averages around 300 inches per each season in the mountains, with significantly less falling in town.

Spring is typically snowy and unsettled, as the days grow gradually longer and warmer. Average temps run in the 40’s and 50’s during the day. The Aspen Snowmass ski areas are typically open from Thanksgiving at the end of November through mid-April.
