Direct flights to Aspen from Denver and Chicago have been bumped up for this upcoming ski season.   Frontier Airlines will increase their weekend flights to five daily starting December 19th and that schedule will continue through the ski season.  United Express has increased direct flights from Chicago throughout the week.

As I drove into Aspen every morning this week, I was welcomed by a consistent number...18.  That was the temperature at approximately 8:30 all five days displayed on my car thermometer. Despite the cold and snow, the forecast for one particular day is warmer than usual. 

Halloween is traditionally a hopping holiday in Aspen. Despite it falling in the middle of a typically slow time of off season, the streets come alive and restaurants and clubs that would usually be closed open their doors for an evening adorned with ghosts and goblins.

The first big snow is falling on the Roaring Fork Valley.  Ski resorts are reporting several inches of new snow, and due to cold temperatures, the Ski Company has started blowing snow a few weeks early in preparation for the upcoming ski season. 

A winter storm warning has been in effect since Monday evening and will not expire until mid day today.

For the first time since anyone can remember, Carl's Pharmacy has reduced its hours of operation from fourteen to twelve hours, seven days a week.  Aspen's original pharmacy and convenient store will now operate from 9am to 9pm daily.

There is a new Pitkin County regulation that will take effect on July 1, 2010.  It will require, prior to closing, that an inspector, licensed by Pitkin County, conduct a septic system inspection in accord with the guidelines provided by Pitkin County and issue a report meeting Pitkin County's specifications verifying that the septic system is operating properly.  The report will allow the seller to obtain the required OWTS use permit from Pitkin County necessary to close.
