Property owners who fail to install the detectors are subject to a $250 fine for the first offense, $500 for the second and a court summons for the third.

Since I arrived in Aspen in 1985, buyers have always been at the mercy of sellers when it came to buying Aspen real estate.  Since Aspen real estate is limited by geography and ordinance, buying into Aspen was determined by the price that a seller would accept to sell.  Aspen real estate is a scarce, finite commodity being chased by the world's wealthiest people.  Even during our normal real estate cycle,  buyer's market is described as 'prices are not going up as fast a during a seller's market'.

Local hitchhikers can rest easy knowing that they now have a dedicated thumbing station in Aspen once again.  The sign, which some consider a part of Aspen transportation history has been replaced after it was stolen last year.  Local artist, Gaard Moses volunteered to paint a new sign and donate it to the city.  He painted the sign by hand with a painter's quill.
