After a fifty year run, the Steak Pit is calling it quits.  Most Aspen "old-timers" remember the previous locations below City Market and the Cooper Street Pier building.  The Steak Pit has been in its current location for the past seventeen years.

The owners say that the building owners were trying to reduce the rent enough to keep the popular local's restaurant operating but high CAM (common area maintenance charges), including property taxes, were too much to overcome.

Recent spring storms have dumped enough fresh snow to convince the Aspen Skiing Company to extend the ski season for at least another two weeks. 

The regular ski season closes April 11 at both Aspen Mountain and Snowmass.  Buttermilk and Highlands are set to close April 4.

Aspen Mountain will be open April 17-18 and April 24-25.  The Sundeck restaurant atop the mountain will be open and will host a band each day.

Current weather forecast for Aspen is a WINTER STORM WARNING for tonight through tomorrow with 12-18 inches expected.

Aspen skier visits were up slightly through the month of February this season, even though number of visits for all Colorado ski resorts as a whole were down by about the same amount for the same period.  SkiCo states that an increase in marketing dollars spent, a noticable surge in local pass use and a strong international business presence are the most likely reasons for Aspen's performance. For whatever reason, Aspen is outperforming the rest of the state's resorts.
