Travel Promotion Act of 2009

June 24, 2009

Due to declining numbers of foreign travellers into the United States, The Travel Promotion Act of 2009 (TPA) is being proposed to help increase tourism revenue and reduce the national budget deficit by $425 million by 2019 if the bill is singed into law according to the congressional budget office.

The TPA would create a non profit within the Department of Commerce devoted to marketing tourism.  The organization is funded by a $10 per person fee on those visiting America from out of the country, and that money would be matched by private travel promotion companies.

Colorado senator Udall said the bill will likely encourage more non-winter tourism in the mountain towns of Colorado, also mentioning his favorite summer pastimes like rafting, hiking and climbing.
