The rivers around Aspen are some of the best in the country for fly fishing. From the Frying Pan and Crystal Rivers to the Roaring Fork River and the Colorado, you'll find the best of Colorado fly fishing all within the Roaring Fork Valley. In and around Aspen, you can experience anything from small, mountain streams to large sections of the Colorado perfect for drift boating. Dry fly fishing is as abundant as nymph fishing. The Roaring Fork River, which starts high on Independence Pass, offers everything from slow, clear sections to the massive winding river closer to Glenwood as it travels 70 miles through the Roaring Fork Valley. Famous for trout fishing, you'll find a lot of every type of fishing along the Roaring Fork.

The Frying Pan River is known for its insect hatches and spectacular scenery. It is a great year-round tail water fishery. Try a Green Drake in the summer and Blue Winged Olives in the spring and fall for the best fishing success.

The Colorado River presents the angler with great float fishing opportunities, where you'll encounter rainbow and brown trout. Be prepared for strong fish and strong waters if you choose to fish the Colorado.  

The Crystal River is a great place to fish, offering unbelievable views and easy access as it flows down the Crystal Valley and enters the Roaring Fork River in Carbondale. There are great trout and mountain whitefish in this river, along with a few cutthroats and brookies. If you are bringing your family fly fishing, check out the Crystal River for sure.
