Where Outdoor Enthusiasts and Entrepreneurial Spirits Abound
For those seeking Aspen’s year-round, high-altitude playground, but can’t afford its elevated prices, the lower Roaring Fork Valley offers great opportunities. There is something for everyone, from large working ranches in the “back country,” to lofts, Victorians, and single-family homes, as well as condos in the restaurant/shopping-rich cores. Carbondale was anointed by Men’s Journal as one of the “best places to live now.”
Carbondale is embraced and loved by those who live and work in this special town. With the Roaring Fork and Crystal Rivers meandering through the Carbondale valley, there is plenty of riverfront living as well as mountainside homesteads. Another draw to the lower Roaring Fork valley are the golf course communities of River Valley Ranch and Aspen Glen, which offer A-rated courses, the latter desgned by Jack Nicklaus.
Main Street is lined with foodie-restaurants, local artisan galleries and unique shops offering gear for the outdoorsman. Festivals and family events happen almost weekly. The most beloved event is probably the First Friday of each month when everyone decks out their bikes with lights and ornaments and parades through town. This monthly event has taken on a life of its own and has expanded into themed First Fridays. Other events include Wednesday Farmer’s Market and Thursday Rodeo in the summer. There are the annual FivePoints Film Festival and Mountain Fair that fill up the town, too.
Carbondale has become an incubator for young businesses. From creators of gear to maximize the enjoyment of the outdoors to purveyors of fine spirits, the community has a tremendous support system to succeed.
